Purrs from Jackie

Thanks to everyone who ChippedIn to save his life!

January 17, 2012

Jackie, a friendly eartipped cat was living on the Brooklyn streets when he was hit by a car. He was found in dire shape, dazed and bleeding from his eye and nose and may have sustained neurological damage that could permanently affect his motor skills. Jackie needed emergency veterinary care to save his life so NeighborhoodCats turned to the community for help, posting his story on ChipIn.

We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of kindness and compassion for this hurt little cat. Friends from as far away as Australia responded to his plight with donations and warm get well wishes. Thanks to your generosity we were able to reach our ChipIn goal of $1,000 to underwrite urgently needed medical care for Jackie.

UPDATE: Jackie is finally "out of the woods", well on the way to recovery! After two weeks in the hospiital he was strong enough to undergo anesthesia and was able to have his dental surgery. Two teeth, fractured when he was hit by a car, were removed. The happy result was that after surgery Jackie started eating on his own for the first time! He can now enjoy his meals without pain and has a hearty appetite. His severe upper respiratory infection has resolved and his eyes are bright and clear.

Jackie can walk normally but only time will tell whether his accident has impaired his ability to run and jump. The good news: Jackie is now well enough to leave the hospital and is ready for adoption or placement in a loving foster home!

Because he is still gaining strength, and cannot at this time easily get away from too-playful dogs or children, we are seeking a quiet home for Jackie. If you are interested in adopting or fostering this very special boy please email name and telephone to: emma@neighborhoodcats.org.

We will continue to post updates about Jackie's progress and thank each and every one of his new friends who are helping to make his "happy ending" possible. Purrs from Jackie!
