Since Neighborhood Cats was founded in the fall of 1999, the progress made in the treatment of New York City's stray and feral cats has been inspiring!  Due to our advocacy and hands-on work, Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) has become the favored approach for managing homeless cat colonies throughout the city.  Hundreds of caretakers have been trained at our workshops and thousands of street cats have been neutered as a result.  With Neighborhood Cats leading the way, the NYC Feral Cat Council has been formed and the NYC Feral Cat Initiative launched.  Today, thanks to our efforts and those of our partners, New York features one of the most enlightened and advanced systems in the country for the care of feral cats.

We've taken our success and packaged it so other communities can benefit as well!  Neighborhood Cats features one of the most popular websites on feral cats in the world.  We were the first to publish a comprehensive handbook on TNR, the first to author an online course, the first to produce an instructional video on TNR'ing entire cat colonies at once, the first to enter a contract with a muncipality to implement TNR city-wide, and the first to produce the National Feral Cat Summit.  Our work is regularly featured in media both locally and nationally and we have become leaders in the field.
