Effectively Managing Feral Cats has recently been released by The Humane Society of the United States and can now be purchased online. The CD/DVD set contains many of the leading educational materials in the feral cat field, including videos and books created by Neighborhood Cats. For only $9.99, everything you need to know about Trap-Neuter-Return, whether you're a caretaker working out in the field or a community activist organizing a large-scale TNR program, can be found here.

The DVD features Trap-Neuter-Return: Fixing Feral Cat Overpopulation, a 16 minute policy video aimed at municipal and shelter officials and directed by Neighborhood Cats executive director Bryan Kortis. Issues surrounding feral cats and TNR, including animal shelters, public health and wildlife, are presented and analyzed. You'll also find the Neighborhood Cats video, How to Perform a Mass Trapping, a step-by-step portrayal of how to TNR an entire colony at once. Named "Best in Category" by the Cat Writers Association in 2005, the instructional video is an invaluable tool for training workshops and anyone working out in the field.

The set also contains pdf files of two publications: The Neighborhood Cats TNR Handbook, authored and published by Neighborhood Cats, and Implementing a Community Trap-Neuter-Return Program, authored by Bryan Kortis and published by The HSUS. The handbook is an A to Z on feral cat colony care with everything from feeding and shelter to community relations and trapping. The guide on community TNR programs addresses the more global issues involved in running a large program, including dealing with local laws and officials, spay/neuter strategies, administration and liability issues, equipment, public outreach and much more. Both books received special awards from the Cat Writers Association - The Neighborhood Cats TNR Handbook was named winner of the ASPCA Special Humane Award in 2005 (read judge's comments here) while Implementing a Community Trap-Neuter-Return Program received the AKC Companion Animal Recovery Award in 2007 (read judge's comments here).

Another helpful tool on the CD is a PowerPoint presentation about TNR created and successfully used by Forgotten Felines of Forysth, a feral cat group based in North Carolina.

The Effectively Managing Feral Cats CD/DVD set can be purchased on The HSUS' Animal Sheltering website (click here). Hard copy versions of the Implementing a Community Trap-Neuter-Return Program guide can be purchased separately for $9.99 (click here). You can also buy the Feral Cat Kit, containing the CD/DVD, hard copy of the community TNR program guide, and 100 copies of The HSUS' new brochure Helping Homeless Cats: Would You Know What to Do, for a total of $24.99 (click here).
