Spay/Neuter Assistance Program

Driven mainly by the Covid-19 pandemic, a systemic shortage of veterinarians and inflation, the availability of affordable spay/neuter services for community cats in New York City has been significantly reduced in recent years. To help address this gap and promote TNR, Neighborhood Cats is offering our Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) to TNR-certified individuals working in NYC. The program is specifically targeted to trappers and caretakers who are not affiliated with a nonprofit and who, as a result, have more limited access to funding. SNAP is generously supported by the Community Cats Podcast.

Typically, SNAP participants use the discount veterinary clinics listed on our site, but can go to any clinic as long as the cats are from New York City. The amount of funding is determined on a case-by-case basis before the surgeries occur, although typically appointments at discount clinics are covered 100% and include a rabies vaccine and eartip. Other medical treatment must be pre-approved if funding is sought. All decisions on what to cover and for how much are within Neighborhood Cats' discretion.
